As temperatures peak during the summer months in Sharjah, the Sharjah Electricity and Water Authority (Sewa) is urging residents to reduce their energy consumption by making rationalization a way of life. To help achieve this goal, Sewa has introduced an initiative called Conservation Hour or Peak Hour, which runs from July to September. Residents are encouraged to switch off non-essential electrical appliances during peak hours, specifically from 2:30pm to 3:30pm every day. This initiative is part of Sewa’s ongoing efforts to raise awareness about energy conservation and prevent strain on the power grid.

One of the main reasons for the need to reduce energy consumption is the extreme temperatures experienced in the UAE, which can surpass the 50°C mark. Hot days typically begin from mid-July and last until the end of August, with humidity levels reaching up to 90 per cent. In response to this, Emirates Central Cooling Systems Corporation PJSC (Empower), the world’s largest district cooling services provider, has launched its annual summer campaign titled ‘Set at 24°C and Save’. The campaign encourages customers to set their air conditioners at a default temperature of 24°C, not only to save money on electricity bills but also to reduce overall energy consumption.

The Conservation Hour initiative by Sewa is just one of several initiatives aimed at promoting energy conservation in the region. By raising awareness and encouraging residents to be mindful of their energy usage, Sewa hopes to create a culture of sustainability and responsible consumption. With the increasing demand for electricity during the summer months, it is crucial for residents to take proactive steps towards reducing their energy consumption to ensure the stability of the power grid. By participating in initiatives like Peak Hour, residents can contribute to the overall goal of conserving energy and reducing their environmental impact.

As the summer temperatures continue to rise, it is important for residents in Sharjah to take proactive measures to reduce their energy consumption. By participating in initiatives like Conservation Hour and setting their air conditioners at a moderate temperature, residents can not only save on electricity bills but also contribute to a more sustainable environment. It is crucial for residents to be mindful of their energy usage, especially during peak hours, to alleviate strain on the power grid and promote a culture of responsible consumption. By working together to conserve energy, residents can make a significant impact on reducing their carbon footprint and building a more sustainable future for the UAE.

In conclusion, the initiatives launched by Sewa and Empower highlight the importance of energy conservation during the summer months in Sharjah. By encouraging residents to participate in initiatives like Peak Hour and setting their air conditioners at a moderate temperature, authorities are taking proactive steps towards reducing energy consumption and promoting sustainability. It is essential for residents to be mindful of their energy usage and take responsibility for their impact on the environment. Through collective efforts, residents can make a significant difference in conserving energy and creating a more sustainable future for Sharjah and the UAE as a whole.
