The UAE is taking significant steps to combat intellectual property violations by setting up an Anti-Piracy Lab in Dubai Media City. A memorandum of understanding has been signed between the Ministry of Economy and La Liga to address the illegal use of audio and visual content across digital platforms. The project will be executed in collaboration with the Telecommunications Regulatory Authority and the Digital Government. The lab will use cutting-edge technological tools to detect, analyze, and remove illegally used audiovisual content, similar to La Liga’s Anti-Piracy Lab in Madrid.

The UAE has been actively fighting intellectual property violations through initiatives like InstaBlock. In Ramadan 2024, the Ministry of Economy blocked 1,117 websites that infringed upon copyright, a significant increase from the previous year. The country has established a legislative framework that aligns with global practices and supports collaborations in combating intellectual property infringements. Abdullah bin Ahmed Al Saleh, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Economy, emphasized the importance of blocking websites that violate intellectual property rights and strengthening global initiatives in this field.

Abdullah bin Ahmed Al Saleh stated that the new project will bolster the Ministry’s InstaBlock initiative and enhance the country’s efforts in protecting intellectual property. The agreement with La Liga focuses on combating intellectual property infringements and supporting global initiatives in this field. Javier Tebas, president of La Liga, praised the UAE’s commitment to fighting piracy and highlighted the importance of defending intellectual property in the sports industry and other sectors.

The CEO of Tecom Group, Abdullah Balhoul, emphasized that protecting intellectual property is essential for advancing a knowledge-based economy. The UAE’s Anti-Piracy Lab will play a crucial role in detecting and blocking websites that infringe upon intellectual property rights, in alignment with the country’s efforts to promote creative industries and safeguard intellectual property. The lab will utilize advanced technological and digital tools to ensure the effective detection and removal of illegally used audiovisual content.

The UAE’s engagement in combating intellectual property violations demonstrates its commitment to upholding copyright laws and protecting the rights of creators. The country’s legislative framework provides authors of intellectual works with the necessary protection against violations. The partnership between the Ministry of Economy and La Liga signifies a joint effort to address the illegal use of audio and visual content across digital platforms. By establishing the Anti-Piracy Lab, the UAE aims to set a global example in effectively combating piracy and protecting intellectual property rights.

In conclusion, the UAE’s initiative to set up an Anti-Piracy Lab in collaboration with La Liga reflects the country’s dedication to fighting intellectual property violations. The lab will utilize advanced technological tools and digital capabilities to detect and address websites that infringe upon intellectual property rights. Through strategic partnerships and legislative frameworks, the UAE aims to strengthen its efforts in protecting intellectual property and promoting a knowledge-based economy. By aligning with global best practices, the country positions itself as a pioneer in combating piracy and safeguarding the rights of creators and innovators.
