The Bahrain Free Labour Unions Federation (BFLUF) has launched its 12th annual summer safety campaign for July and August 2024. The campaign aims to educate workers about the risks of working under the sun and how to manage them. The goal is to provide preventive measures to avoid adverse effects through field visits to various workplaces. BFLUF President Yaqoub Yousef Mohammed emphasized the importance of raising awareness during periods of high temperatures to reduce the risks of heat stress, exhaustion, and sunstroke for workers who work under direct sunlight.

The campaign targets all workers in the Kingdom and will start with field visits to companies, institutions, and open spaces to increase awareness and provide valuable information. It will also offer initial guidance in case any worker experiences health issues related to the sun’s heat. Campaign materials will be translated into foreign languages to cater to non-Arabic speaking workers. Additionally, awareness brochures in multiple languages will be distributed, along with providing cold water and encouraging workers to stay hydrated during the summer months.

President Mohammed urged employers to provide support and assistance to their workers and comply with regulations governing working hours during the summer. Ensuring a safe working environment is crucial to protect the health and safety of workers, enabling them to perform their duties effectively and avoid risks. Providing a resting place for any worker experiencing heatstroke or other health hazards is also essential. The campaign will also include offering symbolic gifts to workers that help protect them from the sun’s rays.
