Launch of the second edition of the ‘Contemporary Characters’ book series

The second edition of the ‘Contemporary Characters’ book series, which documents the contributions of prominent personalities in society, was recently launched with a grand celebration at the Waldorf Astoria Lusail in Doha, Qatar. The event, attended by esteemed guests including Minister of State and President of Qatar National Library H E Dr. Hamad bin Abdulaziz Al Kawari, highlighted the release of the second part of ‘Brilliant Women in the Modern Era,’ the first part of ‘Brilliant Men in the Modern Era,’ and the comprehensive English version encompassing all project characters. The event honoured Qatar’s rich cultural heritage and showcased the remarkable achievements of numerous distinctive personalities.

Founder of the Contemporary Characters project, Hamad Hassan Al Tamimi, expressed his pride in witnessing the culmination of more than two years of hard work, highlighting the project’s significant success. He emphasized that the project celebrates the men and women of Qatar who have transcended the country’s borders with their dedication and loyalty. Al Tamimi stated that the project contributes to achieving Qatar National Vision 2030 by documenting the contributions of prominent personalities in society, providing a deep understanding of development paths that have contributed to national goals.

A panel discussion moderated by Ghada Razouqi featured distinguished guests including Minister of State and President of Qatar National Library H E Dr. Hamad bin Abdulaziz Al Kawari, President of Qatar Press Center Saad bin Mohammed Al Rumaihi, and Al Jazeera journalist Ahmad Mansour. The discussion delved into the vital role of cultural documentation and its impact on national identity and heritage. Al Kawari emphasized the crucial role of Qatar National Library in documenting cultural heritage and supporting researchers, while Al Rumaihi highlighted the significance of documentation in journalism for enhancing societal awareness. Mansour stressed the media’s responsibility in preserving history and ensuring transparency.

The evening began with an introduction by Kuwaiti journalists Nourah Al Humaidhan and Ghada Razouqi, followed by a video presentation by official sponsor Qatar Airways showcasing their commitment to promoting Qatari culture and arts. The presence of Ambassador of Kuwait H E Khalid Badr Al Mutairi underscored the project’s growing influence and collaborative efforts between Qatar and Kuwait. The event concluded with the honouring of entities, companies, and individuals who generously supported the project, demonstrating a grand celebration of Qatar’s heritage, achievements, and the individuals shaping its future.

Overall, the ‘Contemporary Characters’ Second Edition Event was a momentous occasion that celebrated Qatar’s cultural heritage and the achievements of its people, emphasizing resilience, dedication, and the relentless pursuit of excellence. The project’s contribution to documenting the contributions of prominent personalities in society, as well as its role in passing on valuable experiences and messages to future generations, was highlighted throughout the event. With a focus on cultural documentation and its impact on national identity and heritage, the event brought together influential figures to discuss the significance of preserving history and ensuring transparency in journalism.
