The Higher Colleges of Technology in Dubai has launched a new ‘career accelerator track’ aimed at students who may not have excelled academically in traditional school settings but are interested in pursuing vocational training. This model, called ‘Shaping the Future’, is designed to enhance students’ educational opportunities based on their abilities, interests, and the needs of the job market. The college has also formed partnerships to provide students with training and employment opportunities through work experiences. The existing ‘Apprenticeship Programme’ has already benefited thousands of Diploma and Bachelor students.
In a press conference celebrating the first anniversary of the ‘Shaping the Future’ model, Sumaya Abdulaziz Al Hosani announced the launch of the career accelerator track for high school students who did not perform well in EmSAT exams and wish to enter the workforce quickly. This track is also available for current students who may not meet the academic requirements for other pathways and can opt for vocational courses. Additionally, professional certificates linked to career accelerators are being offered to students to enhance their options according to job market demands.
With the re-engineering of its educational approach, the Higher Colleges of Technology enrolled over 7,000 students in the 2023-24 academic year and offered 12 new vocational diploma programs. The college has achieved a 75% graduate employment rate due to collaborations with private and public sector entities. Dr. Alayyan highlighted the importance of offering three study tracks for students, including vocational diploma programs and professional certificates linked to career accelerators, to cater to the diverse needs of the job market and students’ interests.
Dr. Alayyan emphasized the college’s commitment to supporting students beyond graduation by providing employment opportunities in collaboration with public and private sector organizations. Partnerships have been formed to offer training and job opportunities for students and graduates, with a strategic partnership established with Nafis to attract students to study health sciences and work in the private health sector. The college’s strategy focuses on enhancing capabilities, talents, promoting Emirati excellence, and preparing students for leadership and global opportunities.
In their efforts to stay current with the evolving job market, the Higher Colleges of Technology collaborates with the Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation and the Ministry of Education to understand current and future job requirements. By offering new programs and reviewing existing ones, the college ensures a diverse range of options for students to choose from. The emphasis is on providing students with the necessary skills and knowledge to succeed in the competitive vocational market while fostering a culture of continuous learning and development.
