The Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) in Muscat hosted the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between US-based satellite launch company ABL Space Systems and Etlaq spaceport. This partnership aims to bring orbital satellite launch capability to the Gulf region. The focus of the initial project will be on evaluating logistics, site construction, and developing regulatory frameworks with both the US and Oman governments. The Etlaq Spaceport, located at 18-degree latitude, is expected to be operational in 2027 and will provide access to a wide range of orbits, strengthening Oman’s position as a leader in the space industry.

The Etlaq Spaceport’s location at 18-degree latitude provides strategic advantages for launching satellites into a variety of orbits, from sun synchronous to low inclination orbits. The nearby commercial airport and deepwater port in Duqm offer critical logistical capabilities to support satellite missions.
