UAE: Cancer survivors mark their recovery by sharing stories of hope with others

Cancer survivors celebrated their cancer-free status by ringing a bell at a recent event for Cancer Survivor Month at Burjeel Specialty Hospital in Sharjah. The survivors shared their stories of recovery to bring strength, hope, and solidarity to those still battling cancer. Maysaa Abdullah Rashid, a survivor of breast cancer, emphasized the importance of routine screenings for early detection. She highlighted the support and compassion from her family during her difficult times, stating that with the right support and care, one can overcome even the toughest challenges.

Gita Nakarni, another survivor, underwent a rigorous three-year treatment for breast cancer. She shared that the initial days of her battle with cancer were challenging, but with the support of her family, she stayed strong and confronted the disease head-on. Muhammad Aman Hussein, a survivor of colon cancer, expressed his gratitude for the strength and resolve to endure his cancer journey. He thanked the medical team for their exceptional care and the community for their encouragement during the toughest moments.

Prof. Humaid Al Shamsi, Director of Oncology Services at Burjeel Holdings, emphasized the importance of such events in fostering a sense of community and support among cancer patients and survivors. Dr. Mehdi Afrit, Specialist in Medical Oncology at Burjeel Specialty Hospital, highlighted the significance of acknowledging victories in cancer treatment. He stated that celebrating recoveries is essential as it gives hope to those still undergoing treatment and reaffirms the commitment to fighting cancer.

Overall, the event was a celebration of life and a proud moment to acknowledge the medical advancements in the UAE. The survivors’ stories demonstrated the advancements in oncology and comprehensive care. Through advanced treatments, cancer patients can win the battle against cancer. The event served as an inspirational gathering that highlighted the incredible resilience of cancer patients and survivors, spreading the message of hope and showcasing the victories in cancer treatment. It encouraged others to trust their doctors, openly discuss their problems, and seek support from their community during their cancer journey.
