Climate change is a pressing issue that is becoming increasingly visible with extreme weather events, such as the heavy rainfall experienced in the UAE and Dubai in April. As global temperatures rise, experts warn that these events will become more frequent and intense. Tanzeed Alam, managing director of Earth Matters, explains that the one-in-75-years storm experienced could happen much more frequently, emphasizing the urgent need for action.

The younger generation, particularly Gen-Z, is growing increasingly concerned about the future in the face of climate change. Studies have shown that climate change has become a hot topic globally, with more young people recognizing it as a critical issue. There is a sense of hopelessness among young people as they witness the impact of climate change on the planet and future generations.

Despite ongoing efforts to address climate change, there is a sense that more needs to be done, especially by countries that are major contributors to the issue. While some progress has been made in reducing emissions and setting green goals for the future, there is still much work to be done. Government and stakeholders need to work together to find practical solutions to combat climate change effectively.

Gen-Z is pushing for more action on climate change, but older generations are more hesitant. There is a belief that governments alone should solve these problems without the need for young people’s activism and engagement. However, the reality is that Gen-Z will likely be the generation tasked with cleaning up the mess left behind by previous generations, highlighting the importance of collective action.

Mitigation, such as reducing fossil fuel use and addressing plastic pollution, is crucial in fighting climate change. However, it is not enough to solve the problem entirely. Restoration efforts are also needed to heal the damage that has already been done to the planet. Gen-Z must take a stand and advocate for meaningful change to ensure a sustainable future for all.

In conclusion, the debate between restoration, mitigation, and adaptation in addressing climate change is crucial. Gen-Z needs to take the lead in pushing for meaningful solutions and holding governments and stakeholders accountable. It is essential to act now to heal the planet and ensure a sustainable future for all generations to come.
