Rayhan Thomas, a 24-year-old Dubai-born golf prodigy, recently made his professional debut at the Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Kansas Wichita Open on the Korn Ferry Tour. Throughout the challenging four-day tournament, Thomas demonstrated his talent by finishing with a 72-hole total of 276, four under par. This performance earned him a tied 68th-placed finish and a cheque of $3,900, marking his first payday as a professional golfer.

Following a successful five-year golf scholarship at Oklahoma State University, Thomas decided to turn pro at the beginning of this month. His impressive skills were further showcased when he finished tied 9th in the Qualifying School of the PGA Tour of Americas, earning a Conditional Card for the rest of the 2024 season. Thomas reflected on his professional debut, stating that he learned a great deal throughout the tournament and looks forward to competing in future events.

During his final round at the Kansas Wichita Open, Thomas started strong with birdies on holes 2 and 3, but a bogey on 7 slightly hindered his momentum. Despite a front-nine score of 34, he struggled with a disappointing back nine that included six pars, a double, and two bogeys. Thomas remains optimistic about his future in professional golf, with upcoming events like the Compliance Solutions Championship in Oklahoma and potential Korn Ferry Tour starts on the horizon.

The tournament was ultimately won by Taylor Dickson, a 31-year-old American golfer, with rounds of 64, 64, 68, and 65 to finish 19 under par for a one-shot victory. This victory propelled Dickson to third place in the Korn Ferry Tour season-long Points List and a career-high ranking of 126th in the Official World Golf Ranking (OWGR). As Thomas continues to hone his skills and gain experience on the professional circuit, he remains grateful for the support and guidance he received from his coaches and mentors.

Rayhan Thomas’ golf journey began at Dubai Creek Golf and Yacht Club, where he trained under the guidance of Justin Parsons at the Harmon Academy at The Els Club, Dubai. As a leading amateur golfer in both the UAE and the region, Thomas achieved numerous accolades, including winning the 2016 Dubai Creek Open on the MENA Tour. He also proudly represented India in international tournaments and consistently ranked in the top 20 of the World Amateur Golf Rankings (WAGR) – Men’s Division.

Delving into the statistics of Thomas’ performance at the Kansas Wichita Open, he excelled in Driving Accuracy, ranking tied for 11th in the field with a rate of 51.79%. Additionally, he showcased his abilities in other areas such as Driving Distance, Greens in Regulation, Sand Saves, Scrambling, and Putts per Green in Regulation. Throughout the tournament, Thomas recorded one eagle, 16 birdies, 43 pars, 10 bogeys, and two doubles, showcasing his versatility and potential as a professional golfer. With a strong foundation and continuous improvement, Thomas aims to make a lasting impact on the professional golf circuit in the coming years.
