The strategic plan aims to control the population of myna birds through various methods, including trapping and removal, as well as raising public awareness about the negative impact of these invasive birds. The Ministry also plans to conduct further research to better understand the behaviour and breeding patterns of myna birds in Qatar, in order to develop more targeted and effective control measures. By working closely with other state agencies and stakeholders, the Ministry hopes to successfully reduce the population of myna birds and protect the local ecosystem from their harmful effects.
In addition to the myna bird control program, the MoECC is also implementing other initiatives to protect Qatar’s natural environment and combat climate change. These initiatives include the development of renewable energy sources, the promotion of sustainable agriculture practices, and the conservation of biodiversity. The Ministry is committed to working towards a greener and more sustainable future for Qatar, in line with the country’s goals to reduce carbon emissions and preserve its unique natural heritage.
The decrease in myna bird numbers in northwest Doha is a positive sign that the Ministry’s efforts to control invasive bird species are starting to show results. By combining scientific research, strategic planning, and collaboration with other stakeholders, the MoECC is taking proactive steps to protect Qatar’s environment and biodiversity. As the country continues to develop and urbanize, it is crucial to address the threats posed by invasive species and ensure the conservation of wildlife for future generations to enjoy.
As the Ministry of Environment and Climate Change continues to monitor and assess the impact of its initiatives, it is important for the public to also play a role in protecting Qatar’s natural environment. By reporting sightings of invasive birds and supporting conservation efforts, individuals can contribute to the preservation of local wildlife and ecosystems. Together, we can work towards a sustainable future for Qatar, where biodiversity is valued and protected for the benefit of all.
