Abdulla AlShehhi, a long-distance runner from Ras Al Khaimah, has transformed his fitness journey from struggling on a treadmill to completing 15 marathons in the UAE and abroad. Starting at 100kg, he began his weight loss journey over a decade ago with a strict physical regimen. In 2014, he ran his first marathon in Dubai after being inspired by a billboard advertisement, which led him to pursue marathon running as a lifestyle.

Setting goals has been crucial for AlShehhi’s progress, as he keeps pushing himself to achieve new milestones in his running journey. His most recent accomplishment was completing the Boston Marathon in April and earning the prestigious ‘Six Star Finisher Medal.’ Despite facing challenges like the lack of popularity of running in the UAE and the hot summer weather, AlShehhi remains dedicated to his training routine.

As an engineer at Adnoc, AlShehhi’s job requires him to spend two weeks every month on an island with limited running opportunities. However, he manages to fit in his training by running early in the morning or after work. Running serves as a stress-buster for AlShehhi, helping him stay calm and focused amidst life’s pressures. Even during the Covid-19 lockdown, he continued running to maintain his fitness and mental well-being.

AlShehhi’s ultimate goal is to participate in races on every continent and hopes for a marathon that brings together all the Gulf countries. His advice to aspiring runners is to set new goals regularly to stay motivated and committed to their fitness journey. Despite the challenges he faces, AlShehhi’s dedication to running has not only improved his physical health but also brought balance and peace to his personal and professional life.
