NMDC Energy, in collaboration with Technip Energies and JGC Corporation, has secured a $5.5 billion contract from Adnoc for the engineering, procurement, and construction of the Ruwais LNG project in Abu Dhabi. This project will involve the construction of two natural gas liquefaction trains with a combined production capacity of 9.6 million tonnes per annum, utilizing electric-driven motors powered by clean energy. It is expected to be the first LNG export facility in the Mena region to run on clean power, making it one of the lowest-carbon intensity LNG plants globally. The project will significantly increase Adnoc’s LNG production capacity in line with global natural gas demand and the transition towards decarbonization.

Ahmed Al Dhaheri, CEO of NMDC Energy, expressed pride in being chosen for the Ruwais LNG project, highlighting the company’s commitment to advancing sustainable development in the UAE. By using nuclear energy for LNG production, the project not only establishes a new international standard for low-emission energy but also aligns with the country’s strategy for a sustainable future. Arnaud Pieton, CEO of Technip Energies, emphasized the significance of powering electrified LNG trains with nuclear energy, setting a new benchmark for energy security and sustainability. Through their expertise in low-carbon and electrified LNG technology, Technip Energies aims to support Adnoc in becoming a reliable global natural gas supplier while focusing on decarbonization.

Farhan Mujib, representative director and president of JGC, pledged to leverage the company’s capabilities and experience for the Ruwais LNG project, drawing on their established track record in the LNG sector. With a focus on lower-carbon solutions, JGC is committed to contributing to the success of the project and demonstrating their expertise in the LNG industry. The collaboration between NMDC Energy, Technip Energies, and JGC Corporation underscores a joint effort towards promoting sustainable energy solutions and addressing the global demand for cleaner energy sources. As the project progresses, it is expected to play a pivotal role in reducing carbon emissions and advancing the transition to a more sustainable energy landscape in the region.

Overall, the Ruwais LNG project represents a significant milestone in the development of lower-carbon LNG facilities in the Middle East and North Africa region. With a focus on clean energy and environmental sustainability, the project showcases the commitment of key industry players to driving positive change in the energy sector. By introducing innovative solutions and leveraging nuclear energy for LNG production, the project sets a new standard for energy efficiency and emissions reduction, aligning with global efforts to combat climate change. As the project moves forward, it is poised to make a significant impact on the regional energy market and contribute to a more sustainable future for the UAE and beyond.
