Spain made a strong start in Euro 2024 with a 3-0 victory over Croatia in Berlin. Alvaro Morata, Fabian Ruiz, and Dani Carvajal scored for Spain, while Lamine Yamal became the youngest player in Euro history. Spain’s attacking display was impressive, and they seem capable of contending for a fourth European Championship title. On the other hand, Croatia will need to improve in their upcoming matches to advance to the knockout stage.

Despite enjoying strong support from fans, Croatia had a slow start in the match, with Spain dominating possession. Spain’s first goal came from a through ball by Ruiz to Morata, who finished calmly past the Croatian goalkeeper. Ruiz then extended Spain’s lead with a solo effort, showcasing Spain’s attacking versatility. Carvajal added a third goal just before half-time, effectively sealing the victory for Spain.

Croatia had some chances to score, with goalkeeper Unai Simon making crucial saves to maintain Spain’s clean sheet. Croatia’s efforts were further stunted by a VAR ruling that disallowed Petkovic’s late goal due to encroachment. The result was a disappointing start for Croatia in the tournament, and they will need to improve in their upcoming matches against Albania and defending champions Italy.

Yamal’s impressive performance as the youngest player in Euro history added to Spain’s strong showing in the match. The 16-year-old beat the previous record held by Kacper Kozlowski, demonstrating Spain’s depth of talent. Spain’s coach Luis de la Fuente named an exciting starting XI, with young talents like Yamal and Nico Williams impressing on the field. Spain’s attacking prowess and defensive solidity bode well for their chances in Euro 2024.

Overall, Spain’s victory over Croatia was a statement of intent in Euro 2024, with Morata, Ruiz, and Carvajal shining in the match. Croatia will need to regroup and improve in their upcoming matches to have a chance at advancing in the tournament. With Spain’s impressive display and promising young talents, they are well-placed to make a strong run for the European Championship title.
