Wathnan Racing emerged as the leading owners, while Al Jeryan Stud were the leading non-sheikh owners as the Qatar Racing and Equestrian Club (QREC) announced the list of owners, trainers, jockeys, and horses topping the 2023-24 racing season. This list was based on performances during 67 race days conducted throughout the season, confirming the merit of the leaders who secured the largest number of wins and the highest amount of prize money. The list was produced according to prize money and points won by each participant, with Wathnan Racing leading the owners by winning the highest amount of prize money.
According to QREC Racing Manager Abdulla Al Kubaisi, the list of leading owners, trainers, jockeys, and horses is announced after each season based on prize money won or the handicap rating and points. Alban de Mieulle was recognized as the leading trainer, having saddled many winners in prestigious races for Wathnan Racing. In addition, leading jockeys and apprentices were also recognized, with Szczepan Mazur and Faleh Bughanaim leading the overall and Qatari jockeys, respectively. Saleh Salem Al Marri was named the leading Qatari apprentice jockey.
Leading horses were also recognized based on prize money, with Al Shaqab Racing’s Al Ghadeer named the leading Purebred Arabian horse. Other horses in different categories were also highlighted for their outstanding performances throughout the season. The list of leading horses by prize money included Purebred Arabians, Thoroughbreds, and local horses, with each category having its standout performers. For example, Al Shaqab Racing’s Ghadah was recognized as the leading Purebred Arabian mare, while Abdulatif Hussain M Z Al Emadi’s Pazeer was named the leading Thoroughbred horse.
In terms of leaders by handicap rating and points, some changes were seen in the list of leading horses based on both prize money and the point system. Horses such as Al Ghadeer, Ghadah, Mkaee’lat Al Shahania, AJS Lattam, Kerindia, Oddyssey, Full Gambit, Al Gamamah, and Maysara led in both categories. Other horses led by handicap rating and points included AJS Berline, AJS Agadir, Simca Mille, Gold Fleece, Eddie’s Boy, and Equinoxe. Each leading horse was required to have won at least one race in Qatar during the 2023-2024 season to qualify for their title.
In the event of two horses having the same merit score, the tie-breaker was set by the highest-value race won or the horse with the greatest number of total wins. This ensured that the most deserving horses were recognized for their exceptional performances throughout the season. The list of leading owners, trainers, jockeys, and horses serves as a testament to the hard work, dedication, and talent of all participants in the racing industry in Qatar. It highlights the best of the best in the sport and showcases the outstanding achievements of those who have excelled in their respective roles.
