Qatar’s Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, H E Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al Thani, recently inaugurated the new strategy of the Ministry of Municipality for 2024-2030 at a ceremony in Doha. This new strategy focuses on three main priorities: excellence in services and digital transformation, enhancing food security, and improving the quality of life and humanizing cities. The event was attended by various important officials, including the Speaker of the Shura Council and several other ministers.
During the event, Minister of Municipality H E Abdullah bin Hamad bin Abdullah Al Attiyah highlighted the objectives of the new strategy. He emphasized the importance of increasing green spaces and parks, developing public facilities and beaches, and working on cooperation with the private sector to enhance the quality of life and attract more visitors and investors. The Ministry also aims to privatize parks and cleaning works, convert waste into energy, and develop citizens’ land plots.
In line with the goals of the Third National Development Strategy 2024-2030 and the Qatar National Vision 2030, the Ministry of Municipality strives to enhance sustainability, advance innovation, provide high-quality services, and improve infrastructure. The Ministry is currently implementing smart waste management systems and vehicle tracking technologies to increase efficiency and protect the environment. Additionally, there is a focus on food security, resource management, and maintaining food safety standards amid global challenges.
Under the new strategy, the Ministry of Municipality plans to digitalize over 400 services using artificial intelligence technologies to expedite service provision, such as issuing building permits. An integration program with geographic information systems is also in progress to reduce costs, ensure information availability, and facilitate access. The Ministry will continue building national competencies and creating an ideal work environment through workforce planning and supporting national cadres.
The Ministry’s strategy includes plans to achieve institutional excellence by qualifying for the European Excellence Model certificate to provide high-quality services. The inauguration ceremony also marked the launch of the “Himma” app as part of the Ministry’s new strategy project for evaluating and monitoring performance. The overall aim of the strategy is to improve the quality of life through sustainable planning, effective policies, distinguished services, and modern infrastructure, all while fostering cooperation, leveraging smart technologies, and forming fruitful partnerships.
