Two agreements signed for farming shellfish and algae

In a significant move for the aquaculture industry in Oman, the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Water Resources and Fisheries Development Oman have signed an agreement to develop a commercial aquaculture project. The project will be located in the Wilayat of Masirah in South A’Sharqiyah Governorate and will involve an investment of OMR5 million. The agreement was signed by Dr. Saud Hamoud Al Habsi, Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Water Resources, and Muneer Ali Al Muniri, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Fisheries Development Oman.

The project will be implemented by the Blue Waters Company, a subsidiary of Fisheries Development Oman. This initiative aims to promote the development of sustainable aquaculture practices in the region, contributing to economic growth and job creation. Additionally, Net Zero Solutions (NTZ) Company signed a memorandum of understanding with Al Tharmad Business and Services Company and Al Khadra Gulf Industries company in the field of microalgae cultivation, further enhancing the scope of the project.

The aquaculture project in Masirah marks a significant step towards enhancing the fisheries industry in Oman. By leveraging modern technologies and sustainable practices, the project aims to boost production of shellfish in the region. This initiative is expected to create valuable employment opportunities for locals and contribute to the economic development of the area. The investment of OMR5 million reflects the commitment of the government towards supporting the growth of the aquaculture sector.

The signing of the agreement highlights the collaboration between government entities, private companies, and international partners in promoting sustainable aquaculture development.
