The airport welcomed a total of 747,964 passengers, a notable rise from the same month in the previous year. This surge in numbers indicates a promising recovery in travel activities, with over 375,000 arrivals and more than 372,000 departures recorded during the month.
Among the top destinations, Abu Dhabi and Sharjah stood out with passenger figures surpassing 71,000, marking a 37% increase compared to the previous year. Riyadh and Kuwait City also experienced growth, with over 50,000 and 31,000 passengers respectively, demonstrating increases of 33% and 17%.
In addition to passenger traffic, Bahrain International Airport managed 7,950 aircraft movements and handled over 39,000 transiting aircraft throughout the month. The airport also played a crucial role in air freight operations, processing over 11,000 tons of incoming cargo and dispatching over 6,000 tons, highlighting sustained activity in this sector.
The rise in travel demand during April was partially attributed to the Eid al-Fitr holiday, showcasing the airport’s capability to accommodate peak travel periods and its contribution to the revival of the travel and tourism industry in Bahrain. The Ministry’s data further emphasizes the growing significance of Bahrain International Airport as a central hub for regional travel and cargo operations.
Overall, the increased passenger traffic and cargo operations at Bahrain International Airport in April 2024 reflect a promising recovery in travel activities and the airport’s pivotal role in supporting the travel and tourism industry in Bahrain. With its strategic location and efficient services, the airport continues to attract passengers and cargo traffic, solidifying its position as a key player in the regional aviation sector.
