The Qatar Basketball Federation (QBF) recently held a meeting with sports club leaders to strengthen collaboration and coordination for optimal outcomes domestically and internationally. QBF Secretary General Saadoun Sabah Al Kuwari presided over the meeting alongside national team coach Thanasis Skortopoulos. Al Kuwari provided an overview of the new league system, highlighting the structure, participating teams, and distribution methods. The league competition is set to begin on December 13 with nine teams, including Al Arabi, Al Sadd, Al Rayyan, and others. The competition will follow a two-round league system where the top eight teams will advance to the playoffs.

In the playoffs, the teams will be matched based on their standings, with the top team facing the eighth-place team, and so on. The winners will move on to the semi-finals and eventually to the final match. Al Kuwari emphasized that these changes are aimed at enhancing competition levels and nurturing players, promoting fair play and providing opportunities for young talents to showcase their skills. The calendar for the new season 2024-2025 was also revealed, with the Qatar Cup competition scheduled to start on October 19 and run until October 29, 2024.

The new league system, with a two-round format and playoffs, promises to intensify competition and provide a platform for players to shine.

The modifications introduced by Al Kuwari and QBF aim to not only enhance the level of competition but also nurture players and promote fair play.
