Virginia Commonwealth University School of the Arts in Qatar (VCUarts Qatar) has announced an exciting lineup of summer classes for high school students and children in Doha, Qatar. The Community and Continuing Education (CCE) wing will offer the popular Summer Art and Design High School Program 2024, as well as a robotics course for younger children. Both courses will take place at VCUarts Qatar’s campus in Education City.
The Summer Art and Design Program for High School Students is a three-week program with an optional week of portfolio development classes. Students will be introduced to various fine art degree programs such as kinetic imaging, graphic design, interior design, and painting and printmaking. They will have the opportunity to delve deeper into their chosen field over the course of the program. Those who opt for the portfolio development classes will receive guidance on compiling their creative work into a portfolio that meets international standards.
The summer program for high school students will run from July 7-25, with an option to continue into August 1 for portfolio development classes. The classes will be held from 10 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. Participants in past high school programs at VCUarts Qatar have been inspired to pursue undergraduate studies in art and design, with some like co-valedictorian Kaltham Al-Fakhroo going on to excel at the University.
Rasha Alkasab, Program Manager for Community and Continuing Education at VCUarts Qatar, highlighted the diverse academic programs offered during the summer course. The students will have the opportunity to explore kinetic imaging through sessions on moving images, video, GIFs, and creative coding. Additionally, younger students aged 10-14 can take part in Wizbot 101, a robotics program designed specifically for budding tech enthusiasts.
The high school summer programs at VCUarts Qatar aim to provide students with an inspiring glimpse into the world of art and design in the 21st century. By offering a hands-on experience in various creative fields, students can develop their passion for arts and design and potentially pursue further studies at the University. The courses are designed to prepare students for admission to competitive art and design universities that require a portfolio as part of the application process.
With the increasing demand for individuals skilled in art, design, architecture, new media, communications, and technology, the summer classes at VCUarts Qatar provide a valuable opportunity for young students to explore their creative potential. By participating in these programs, students can gain practical skills and knowledge that will benefit them in their academic and professional pursuits. The CCE wing at VCUarts Qatar continues to inspire and motivate students to pursue their interests in the arts and design fields through innovative and engaging summer classes.
