Residents of Dubai’s Serena Community have been facing the issue of noise from late-night roadworks for months. The noise has been described as “horrendous” by a villa owner in the community, Abbie Watson. The construction of a roundabout in the area, aimed at easing traffic near a school and supermarket, has been ongoing between the Serena and Al Waha communities in Dubailand since February.
Watson and her neighbours have been greatly affected by the noise, especially when it goes on till late at night. At one point, the noise was so unbearable that Watson had to call the police when machines were working from 11pm to 4am. She even had to move her baby to the front of the villa at 2am as the ground was shaking from the construction works.
Watson shared videos of the ongoing roadworks on social media platforms, hoping to bring attention to the issue. She also contacted the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) to raise her concerns. In response to her complaint, RTA sent inspectors to the site and informed the contractor to avoid late-hour works. The authority mentioned that the project is expected to be completed within a week.
Despite reporting the noise issue back in April, the problem was not resolved, and the construction continued. Tyson took the complaint to RTA once again, hoping for a timely resolution. She expressed the community’s eagerness for the construction project to be completed and for the noise disturbances to come to an end. Residents are hopeful that with the intervention of RTA, the late-night roadworks causing distress will soon be a thing of the past.
