Maj-Gen. Ismail Abdullah Al Gergawi, a retired Dubai Police officer, defied his family’s disapproval to join the force in 1966, as a teenager. He was recognized during a ceremony marking the force’s 68th anniversary. Initially, the Dubai Police Force had members from diverse nationalities, as Emirati citizens were hesitant to join. Over time, more citizens started joining the force, and Al Gergawi served for over 30 years in various roles, such as operations, police stations, and traffic, and as the director of the Dubai Police Academy.

Al Gergawi’s long-time friend Maj-Gen. Juma Obaid Aman, who joined in 1970, reminisced about the early days of the force when advanced technology was not available. The officers relied on their memory and would stay at crime scenes for weeks to gather all necessary information. They took pride in their ability to solve cases through old-fashioned detective work, such as inspecting crime scenes, interviewing witnesses, and piecing together evidence. Maj-Gen. Juma Obaid Al Sayegh, who joined in 1971, also reflected on the challenges they faced and the support they received from the Dubai government.

Lieutenant General Abdullah Khalifa Al Marri, Commander-in-Chief of Dubai Police, honored the veteran officers for their commitment to serving their country. He praised their contributions and pledged to continue efforts to ensure the security and safety of the emirate. The Dubai Police Force has evolved over the years, with advancements in technology and training, making it more efficient and effective in maintaining law and order. The dedication and expertise of officers like Al Gergawi, Aman, and Al Sayegh have played a significant role in shaping the force into what it is today.

The legacy of these veteran officers serves as an inspiration for the new generation of Dubai Police recruits. Their commitment to duty, perseverance in the face of challenges, and dedication to serving their community have set a high standard for future officers to follow. The Dubai Police Force continues to uphold its reputation as a professional and reliable law enforcement agency, thanks to the contributions of officers like Al Gergawi and his colleagues.

In conclusion, the stories of Maj-Gen. Ismail Abdullah Al Gergawi, Maj-Gen. Juma Obaid Aman, and Maj-Gen. Juma Obaid Al Sayegh showcase the resilience and determination of Dubai Police officers. Their commitment to upholding the law, solving complex cases, and ensuring the safety of the community is commendable. As the force continues to evolve and adapt to changing circumstances, the legacy of these veteran officers will always be remembered and celebrated. The Dubai Police Force remains a beacon of security and stability in the region, thanks to the dedication and sacrifice of officers like Al Gergawi, Aman, and Al Sayegh.
