The State of Qatar has taken a significant step towards improving road safety both within its borders and globally by signing a Unified Administrative Agreement with the United Nations Road Safety Fund (UNRSF) in Geneva, Switzerland. In joining the Fund, Qatar becomes part of a global partnership dedicated to reducing road traffic deaths and injuries, as well as addressing critical gaps in national road safety systems. Representing Qatar at the signing ceremony was Dr. Hind bint Abdulrahman Al Muftah, the Permanent Representative of the State of Qatar to the United Nations Office in Geneva, on behalf of the Ministry of Transport. On the other hand, representing the UNRSF was Tatiana Molcean, the Executive Secretary of UN Economic Commission for Europe.

During the ceremony, Qatar announced a generous financial contribution of $450,000 to the UNRSF, demonstrating its commitment to improving road safety. This donation will support the Fund’s unique mandate to enhance government efforts in achieving global road safety targets. The UNRSF’s Executive Secretary expressed appreciation for Qatar’s contribution, highlighting the importance of such funding in advancing global road safety initiatives. Furthermore, the UN Secretary-General’s Special Envoy for Road Safety, Jean Todt, also commended Qatar for its financial support towards the Fund.

HE Permanent Representative of the State of Qatar to the United Nations Office in Geneva emphasized the State’s pride in investing in global road safety targets through the UN Road Safety Fund. By supporting the UNRSF, Qatar is not only investing in a safer future for all road users within the country but also for individuals around the world. This commitment reflects Qatar’s dedication to promoting road safety on an international level and its recognition of the importance of collaborative efforts in addressing this critical issue. The financial contribution to the Fund will enable the UNRSF to further its mission of reducing road traffic deaths and injuries through supporting government initiatives and implementing effective road safety measures.

The agreement signed between Qatar and the UNRSF marks a significant milestone in the country’s commitment to improving road safety and aligning with global targets in this area. The partnership with the Fund will enable Qatar to access resources and expertise to enhance its national road safety systems and implement effective strategies to reduce road traffic fatalities and injuries. By joining this global network of organizations working towards a common goal, Qatar demonstrates its willingness to contribute to international efforts in improving road safety and protecting the lives of road users.

As a member of the UNRSF, Qatar will have the opportunity to participate in collaborative initiatives, share best practices, and learn from the experiences of other countries in implementing successful road safety programs. This partnership will provide Qatar with the necessary support and guidance to strengthen its road safety regulations, infrastructure, and enforcement mechanisms, ultimately contributing to creating a safer road environment for its citizens and visitors. By investing in road safety through the UNRSF, Qatar is taking proactive steps towards achieving sustainable development goals related to road safety and ensuring the well-being of its population.

In conclusion, the signing of the Unified Administrative Agreement between Qatar and the United Nations Road Safety Fund represents a significant milestone in the country’s efforts to enhance road safety domestically and globally. By pledging financial support to the Fund and becoming an active member of this global network, Qatar is demonstrating its commitment to reducing road traffic deaths and injuries and promoting a culture of safety on the roads. Through collaboration with the UNRSF and other partners, Qatar is poised to make significant progress towards achieving global road safety targets and ensuring the safety of road users in the State of Qatar and beyond.
