Empower-U is a non-profit initiative founded by four Dubai-based high school students, Dev Vohra, Zahaan Anand, Akshaj Harihar, and Jaiditya Malik, with the goal of promoting inclusivity and accessibility in the art world. The initiative was inspired by their interactions with artists of determination during their summer vacations. Witnessing how these artists expressed themselves through their work, the students decided to create a platform to showcase and market the talents of individuals with special needs globally.

Zahaan Anand, one of the co-founders of Empower-U, shared his experience working with the Emirati artist Abdulla Lutfi, who is on the autism spectrum. Through observing Abdulla’s journey in positioning his art in the market, Zahaan realized the potential for individuals with special needs to thrive as artists and entrepreneurs. This realization led to the formation of Empower-U, with the aim of empowering artists of determination to find their niche and gain recognition for their creative talents.

Dev Vohra, another co-founder, emphasized the importance of creating a digital platform that highlights and promotes the creations of individuals with special needs. The core mission of Empower-U is to provide a space where artists of determination can express themselves freely through their art while generating a fair stream of revenue for themselves. By honoring the creativity and unique perspectives of these artists, the initiative seeks to break down barriers and foster inclusivity in the art world.

As Empower-U gains attention from various stakeholders, including art galleries, orphanages, and organizations, co-founder Akshaj Harihar emphasizes that the initiative is not just about showcasing art pieces but about promoting inclusivity and financial empowerment. The platform aims to support individuals with special needs in their artistic endeavors while advocating for their recognition as talented artists rather than focusing on their disabilities.

Gulshan Kavarana, co-founder of Special Families Group and mentor to Abdulla Lutfi, acknowledges the significance of platforms like Empower-U in supporting artists of determination. He emphasizes the importance of respecting and accepting these individuals as artists, regardless of any disabilities they may have. Jaiditya Malik, another co-founder, envisions expanding the scope of Empower-U to include various forms of artistic expression beyond visual art, such as sculptures and photography, catering to both children and adults with special needs.

Through the transformative power of art, the founders of Empower-U aspire to create a more inclusive, tolerant, and creative society. By providing a platform for artists of determination to showcase their talents and gain recognition for their work, the initiative aims to break down stereotypes and promote diversity in the art world. With a commitment to fostering creativity and empowerment, Empower-U seeks to uplift individuals with special needs and celebrate their artistic contributions to society.
