Heavy rainfall in Bahrain has caused significant damage in the Capital Governorate, leading to water accumulation, insect infestations, and mosquito proliferation. In response to this, the Capital Municipality has received approximately 1,500 reports of damage and has deployed inspectors, pumps, and tankers to various areas in order to address these concerns. The municipality has removed 3,062 loads of debris from 193 locations, with the eighth constituency (Sitra) being the most affected area, followed by the tenth constituency (Isa Town, Sanad, A’ali, and Nuwaidrat).
Yusuf Al Bannai, the Head of the Cleaning Department in the Capital Municipality, presented a detailed report on the efforts undertaken by the municipality in response to the recent heavy rainfall. He highlighted the areas that were addressed and the extent of the efforts exerted in removing debris and addressing the damage caused by the rainfall. The municipality has focused on areas like Sitra Abu Al Aish, Sitra Markhoban, and Ma’ameer, which were the most affected by the heavy rainfall, while Sanabis was the least affected area.
Mohammed Al Sahli, the Director General of the Capital Municipality, commended the efforts of the Cleaning Department in addressing the issues caused by the heavy rainfall. He also acknowledged the contributions of all relevant entities that participated in the response efforts. Despite the progress made in addressing the damage, challenges still remain in draining water from private land plots that have been excavated by their owners, leading to water accumulation and mosquito breeding in some areas.
