Qatar Museums’ Architectural Conservation Department has recently completed the restoration project of Al Jamiliya old school in Doha, Qatar. This school holds great historical significance as a part of Qatar’s education process and is a key component of Qatar National Vision 2030. The restoration project was made possible through the collaboration and support of the Ministry of Municipality, Ministry of Environment and Climate Change, and the Ministry of Education and Higher Education. Qatar Museums and Seashore Group worked together to preserve this building for future generations and serve the local community.

Adel Al Moslamani, Director of Qatar Museums’ Architectural Conservation Department, emphasized the importance of preserving the architectural character and style of the old school building while following restoration standards and conservation policies. Al Jamiliya School is considered a valuable example of school buildings constructed throughout different historical stages in Qatar, showcasing the country’s educational development. Additionally, the school will be utilized to host heritage and cultural events to benefit the local community and showcase Qatar’s history of education.

Al Jamiliya School, located in the Al Jamiliya area, is one of the few remaining old buildings in the region. The school comprises four rooms, including three classrooms, a principal’s room, services annex, and bathrooms. The restoration process began in mid-2023 due to the poor structural condition of the ceilings and walls, highlighting Qatar Museums’ commitment to community partnerships and cultural heritage protection. The school has been designated as a heritage building and allocated to Qatar Museums in coordination with relevant authorities.

Seashore Group, under the leadership of owner and chairman Salem Al Mohannadi, generously supported the renovation and restoration of Al Jamiliya School. Saqr Saeed Al Mohannadi, Vice Chairman of the Board of Directors of Seashore Group, emphasized the importance of safeguarding heritage and antiquities as a way to preserve the identity and history of Qatar for future generations. The restoration project was completed in May 2024, with Seashore Group adhering to Qatar Museums’ conservation standards and principles to maintain the building’s original architectural style.

The restoration work included coordinating the school’s permanent supply of electricity and water with Kahramaa and installing a fire alarm system for safety measures. The completion of the restoration project signifies a significant milestone in preserving Qatar’s cultural heritage and promoting community engagement. Through the joint efforts of Qatar Museums, Seashore Group, and other relevant authorities, Al Jamiliya old school has been restored to its former glory, ready to serve as a cultural and educational hub for the local community.
