The first edition of the career day for persons with disabilities and autism was recently inaugurated by Minister of Social Development and Family H E Maryam bint Ali bin Nasser Al Misnad. The event, organized by the Ministry of Social Development and Family’s Shafallah Center for Persons with Disabilities, aimed to empower individuals with disabilities and autism by showcasing their abilities and offering job opportunities that suit their talents. Minister of Labour H E Dr. Ali bin Smaikh Al Marri was also present at the inauguration, demonstrating support for the initiative.
During the exhibition, the ministers toured various sections showcasing the important professions in which the center’s affiliates had been trained. They visited a coffee making corner operated by the center’s affiliates, as well as a workshop where products are produced and sold by Shafallah grocery. Furthermore, the ministers explored a cooking workshop supervised by chef Nouf Al Marri. The exhibition highlighted the skills and capabilities of individuals with disabilities and autism, shedding light on the services provided by the center to help them integrate into society.
The Executive Director of the Shafallah Center, Maryam Saif Al Suwaidi, emphasized that the career day aimed to promote collaboration between various sectors and invite HR managers and recruitment personnel to witness the abilities of individuals with disabilities and autism. By creating new training tracks and providing a conducive environment for these individuals, the center aims to facilitate their access to suitable jobs across diverse sectors. Additionally, the event aimed to raise awareness among employers and recruitment staff on how to effectively engage with individuals with disabilities in the workplace.
Assistant Undersecretary for National Manpower Affairs at the Ministry of Labour (MoL), Shaikha Abdulrahman Al Badi, emphasized MoL’s commitment to empowering individuals with disabilities professionally and ensuring their inclusion in the labor market. By providing appropriate job opportunities, MoL aims to support the self-independence of individuals with disabilities and facilitate their integration into both public and private enterprises. The event underscored the importance of creating a supportive and inclusive environment for individuals with disabilities to thrive in the workplace.
