‘Saving Private Ryan’ revisits French cinemas in honor of D-Day anniversary – News

On June 6, 2024, French cinemas around 300 will be screening Steven Spielberg’s iconic D-Day film, Saving Private Ryan, in honor of the 80th anniversary of the historic World War II operation. The movie, initially released in 1998, depicts the story of Captain John Miller, played by Tom Hanks, leading a group of soldiers through the chaos of the Allied invasion of northern France to rescue Private James Ryan, portrayed by Matt Damon, who lost all of his brothers in battle. The emotional climax of the film sees an elderly Ryan visiting Miller’s grave in Normandy, a scene that will resonate with viewers as they remember the sacrifices made on D-Day.
