Dominic Morton, an 18-year-old Dubai-based golfer, is embarking on a new chapter in his golfing career by heading to the US on a golf scholarship at Odessa University, Texas. Moving to Dubai with his family in 2018, Morton became a member of Trump International Golf Club and currently plays off a +2.5 handicap. Having just completed his IB course at GEMS Wellington School, Morton has been a regular competitor in Emirates Golf Federation (EGF) events in the UAE, with notable achievements in the EGF Order of Merit tournaments.
Reflecting on his time in the UAE, Morton expressed his enjoyment of playing in various EGF tournaments and highlighted his recent victory in the EGF Order of Merit Men’s Championship at Al Zorah Golf Club. He finished eighth in the 2023-24 EGF Men’s Order of Merit, showcasing his talent and dedication to the sport. Looking ahead, Morton is eager to join the Odessa University team in Texas and is preparing to play in regional and national tournaments in the UK before starting his four-year course in Business aligned with his golf scholarship in August.
Maintaining a balance between academics and golf, Morton understands the importance of excelling in both areas to continue pursuing his passion for the sport. With a rigorous schedule consisting of practice sessions, gym workouts, coursework, and weekend tournaments, Morton is dedicated to honing his skills and achieving success on the golf course. Excited about upcoming competitions like the English and Scottish Boys’ Championships, as well as the English and Scottish Amateurs, Morton is determined to make the most of his final opportunities in the Boys’ Divisions before transitioning to senior-level events.
Throughout his golf journey, Morton values the support of his friends who are also pursuing golf scholarships in the US, including Josh Hill and Toby Bishop. Having undergone a period of recovery after a hernia operation, Morton now feels fully fit and confident in his game. Identifying his strengths in driving distance and putting, Morton acknowledges areas for improvement in his chipping, approach play, and mental game. With the guidance of Head Coach Brad Stracke at Odessa University, Morton aims to showcase his talent, secure a spot on the university team, and continue to progress in his golfing career.
