The State of Qatar continues its support for the World Health Organization (WHO) by pledging a voluntary contribution of USD 4 million for the year 2024. This announcement was made by the Minister of Public Health and Chair of the WHO Executive Board, HE Dr. Hanan Mohammed Al Kuwari, during Qatar’s participation in WHO’s high-level celebration of its first Investment Round, titled “All for Health, Health for All.” Dr. Al Kuwari emphasized Qatar’s commitment to supporting WHO’s programs and initiatives, highlighting the country’s previous contributions to the organization’s program budget.
Qatar has been a key partner for WHO, collaborating on global, regional, and national health priorities such as health security, disease eradication, universal health coverage, and humanitarian response. Dr. Al Kuwari stressed the importance of addressing complex and interconnected global challenges, including climate change, displacement, health disparities, economic instability, and pandemic threats. She highlighted WHO’s Fourteenth General Programme of Work (GPW 14) for 2025-2028, aimed at promoting health and well-being for all.
The Minister of Public Health noted that a new investment case for WHO, outlining the key outcomes of GPW 14 and the required resources, will be launched at the 77th World Health Assembly’s strategic roundtable meeting. She underlined the importance of sustainable and flexible funding for WHO to implement its work effectively. Dr. Al Kuwari emphasized the significance of WHO in safeguarding global health and reiterated the need for unity and continued investment in the organization.
The first Investment Round celebration featured senior officials from various countries, WHO Director-General Dr. Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, and other WHO leadership. Qatar’s ongoing support for WHO demonstrates its commitment to promoting health and well-being on a global scale. The country’s contributions play a vital role in ensuring that WHO can fulfill its mission of providing health for all and addressing global health challenges effectively. Dr. Al Kuwari’s announcement reaffirms Qatar’s dedication to partnering with WHO and contributing to advancing public health initiatives worldwide.
