The Generation Amazing Foundation (GA) and Maktaba Children’s Library have joined forces to launch Reading Goals 2.0 in Doha, Qatar. This initiative aims to promote literacy and a lifelong love for reading among youth in Qatar. Building on their partnership that began in 2016, the program focuses on empowering young minds through sports and storytelling. The original Reading Goals program was introduced in 2016 with the goal of using the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 as a platform to raise awareness about literacy. As part of this program, a collection of 12 bilingual Arabic/English children’s books was created, authored and illustrated by Qataris or residents. These stories convey messages aligned with the UN Sustainable Development Goals, such as gender equality and climate action.
Reading Goals 2.0 takes the program to the next level with the introduction of dynamic workshops and digital media to spark children’s imaginations. The launch of a social media campaign on June 2nd will invite audiences to explore the characters and narratives of the 12 stories. Community workshops starting on July 6th will engage children aged 7-13 in the theme of “My Sports Journey,” promoting creativity and literacy. These workshops also aim to bring families together to share stories and create lasting memories. Nasser Al-Khori, Executive Director of GA, highlighted the connection between the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 and Reading Goals 2.0, emphasizing the importance of empowering youth through literacy and storytelling. The Generation Amazing Book Collection, developed in partnership with Maktaba Children’s Library, aims to educate children on sustainability and empower them to be responsible global citizens through engaging storytelling.
Sarah Champa, Co-author and Founder of Maktaba Children’s Library, expressed pride in the Reading Goals program, highlighting its role in fostering a love for reading and learning among children. The program aims to promote social emotional growth and skill development while also amplifying local voices in children’s literature. By creating a space for diverse voices and storytelling, Reading Goals 2.0 aims to promote better understanding among children and empower them to become responsible global citizens. Through this initiative, GA and Maktaba Children’s Library are working together to make a positive impact on the youth of Qatar.
