The State of Qatar recently participated in a panel discussion organized by the World Health Organization in Geneva, focusing on the health situation in the Eastern Mediterranean Region. Represented by Minister of Public Health HE Dr. Hanan Mohammed Al Kuwari, Qatar highlighted its commitment to international cooperation and solidarity in supporting countries and communities in crisis. The country’s wise leadership, under HH the Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, has prioritized providing financial contributions to support the development process in the Least Developed Countries (LDCs), totaling USD 60 million.

Dr. Al Kuwari emphasized the devastating impact of ongoing conflicts on health infrastructure in conflict-affected countries, resulting in urgent medical needs for thousands of individuals. She stressed the importance of rebuilding health systems in these countries to ensure fairness, sustainability, and the ability to meet the needs of populations now and in the future. Health, she noted, plays a crucial role in promoting peace and reconciliation in the region, transcending political boundaries and serving as a universal human right that should be prioritized above politics and ideology.

The Minister of Public Health highlighted the necessity for member states in the Eastern Mediterranean Region to collaborate and share experiences, innovative solutions, and lessons in addressing challenges such as non-communicable diseases, antimicrobial resistance, emerging diseases, and humanitarian crises. By investing in resources, expertise, and partnerships, including the contributions of youth, health professionals, policymakers, and communities, countries in the region can accelerate progress towards achieving sustainable development goals.

Dr. Al Kuwari called for a bold vision for the future of health in the Eastern Mediterranean region, emphasizing flexibility, innovation, and equity. By working together, challenges can be turned into opportunities, leading to a healthier and more prosperous future for all. The panel discussion also highlighted Qatar’s achievements in healthcare innovation, workforce development, and pharmaceutical industries. The participation of senior officials, specialists, and WHO representatives further underscored the importance of cooperation in addressing health challenges in the region.

In conclusion, Qatar’s participation in the panel discussion showcased its commitment to supporting global health initiatives and its belief in the transformative power of collective action. By emphasizing the importance of rebuilding health systems in conflict-affected countries, prioritizing investments in resources and expertise, and fostering partnerships, Qatar aims to contribute to the advancement of health and well-being in the Eastern Mediterranean Region and beyond. Through collaboration and a bold vision for the future, Qatar is poised to make a positive impact on the health and prosperity of communities in crisis.
