Kumar Sangakkara, the Director of Cricket for the Rajasthan Royals, expressed his satisfaction with the team’s performance in the Indian Premier League, despite falling short of reaching the final. He commended his players for playing “phenomenal” cricket throughout the season. The team suffered a defeat to the Sunrisers Hyderabad in the playoffs, ending their journey in the tournament.

The Rajasthan Royals faced the Sunrisers Hyderabad in a challenging match in hot and humid conditions at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai. Unfortunately, they were unable to emerge victorious and lost the game by 36 runs. Despite the defeat, Sangakkara highlighted the team’s strong start to the season and their ability to put themselves in winning positions in various matches.

Reflecting on the ups and downs of T20 cricket, Sangakkara acknowledged the unpredictable nature of the game, citing the example of Royal Challengers Bangalore, who turned their season around after a poor start. He emphasized the importance of consistently putting oneself in contention for playoffs and finals, which the Rajasthan Royals achieved in the season.

Throughout the season, Sangakkara praised the team for consistently delivering exceptional performances on the field. He noted that despite some fatigue setting in towards the end of the tournament, the players remained focused and committed to their performance. The Director of Cricket expressed his pride in the team’s efforts and their ability to compete at a high level in the IPL.

Looking ahead, the Sunrisers Hyderabad will face the Kolkata Knight Riders in the final showdown at Chepauk stadium on Sunday. As the season comes to a close, teams will look to showcase their best cricket in the final match and compete for the chance to lift the IPL trophy. The Rajasthan Royals may have missed out on the final opportunity, but they have garnered praise for their commendable performance throughout the season.
