Safiya Al Sayegh, the Emirati cyclist who has qualified for the 2024 Paris Olympics, received valuable advice from Olympic silver medallist Jessica Smith and Paralympian Dan Norton. Al Sayegh, the first Emirati female cyclist to qualify for an Olympic Games, is gearing up to showcase her skills at the 158-km long women’s road race in Paris. While Al Sayegh aims for a stellar performance, Smith and Norton emphasized the importance of enjoying the Olympic experience beyond just competing for medals.

Smith, who represented Australia at the 2004 Athens Olympics, shared how the Games create lasting memories and unique experiences for athletes. Norton, who excelled in rugby at the Olympics, recalled bumping into sporting icons like Usain Bolt and the Williams sisters at the Rio Games. He described the Olympics as a vibrant circus with athletes of all shapes and sizes, highlighting the surreal and special moments that come with competing at such a prestigious event.

Both Smith and Norton emphasized the need to stay focused and embrace the beauty of the moment amidst the excitement and distractions of the Olympics. Norton reflected on winning the silver medal at the Rio 2016 Olympics as a significant achievement in his athletic career. Al Sayegh, who also joined a professional cycling team (UAE Team ADQ), expressed immense pride in representing the UAE at the Olympic Games and looks forward to giving her best performance in Paris.

As Al Sayegh prepares for the Olympics, she is determined to make the most of this opportunity and compete alongside the world’s elite cyclists. With the encouragement and advice from seasoned athletes like Smith and Norton, Al Sayegh is focused on delivering a remarkable performance while cherishing the unforgettable experience of participating in the Olympic Games. The road to Paris is paved with dedication, skill, and a passion for cycling, and Al Sayegh is poised to make her mark on the international stage.
