The Qatar Cancer Society (QCS) has launched a groundbreaking digital platform called ‘Wayyakum,’ which aims to support cancer patients in the region. This platform allows patients and their families to apply for cancer treatment support online, with approvals expected to be granted within just two hours. The launch event, held at the QCS headquarters, was attended by prominent figures such as QCS Chairman Sheikh Dr. Khalid bin Jabr Al Thani and Dr. Al Hareth Al Khater, Deputy Medical Director of Clinical Affairs at the National Centre for Cancer Care and Research (NCCCR).

Sheikh Dr. Khalid highlighted that ‘Wayyakum’ was created to provide timely and comprehensive assistance to cancer patients. The platform streamlines the application process by allowing users to upload all necessary information electronically, eliminating the need for paper documents. Approval letters are automatically generated and sent to the appropriate healthcare providers once a decision is made, either at the NCCCR or Sidra Medicine. This initiative is a significant step towards enhancing the efficiency and accessibility of cancer treatment support services in Qatar.
The integration of ‘Wayyakum’ with the ‘Sanady’ platform facilitates financial assistance coordination among 23 partners from government and non-government organizations in Qatar. Funds will be allocated based on the patient’s needs and the estimated treatment costs provided by healthcare providers. Initially, a sum of QR 50,000 will be allocated per patient, with some individuals requiring multiple treatments over several years. The goal is to ensure that all cancer patients receive the necessary support to effectively manage their treatment.
The Cancer Patients Treatment Support Committee at QCS, composed of specialists in cancer patient support, social workers, finance experts, and program managers, evaluates applications for treatment support. Final approval is granted by the General Manager, ensuring a thorough and fair assessment process. Since 2013, QCS has covered the treatment costs of approximately 9,362 patients, demonstrating its commitment to supporting individuals battling cancer. In 2023 alone, the organization assisted 1,200 individuals, both new and repeat patients, underscoring the ongoing need for comprehensive cancer treatment support services in the region.
Accessing ‘Wayyakum’ is simple and convenient through the QCS website and mobile app, making it easier for cancer patients and their families to seek assistance. The user-friendly platform is designed to streamline the application process and expedite approvals, ensuring that individuals receive the necessary support in a timely manner. QCS is dedicated to enhancing the quality of care for cancer patients and continues to innovate and adapt to meet the evolving needs of the community. With ‘Wayyakum,’ the organization is taking a significant step towards improving access to cancer treatment support services and making a tangible difference in the lives of those affected by cancer.
