The National Center of Meteorology (NCM) has ruled out the possibility of using research technology to transform clouds in Taif into the Holy Sites in order to reduce the severity of hot weather during the upcoming Hajj season. NCM Spokesman Hussein Al-Qahtani stated that while the idea is still in its initial stages, it could be considered for future use during the annual pilgrimage if approved by the relevant authorities. The Regional Cloud Seeding Program aims to transfer Taif clouds to Makkah to reduce temperature levels and modify the weather in the Holy Sites. The project intends to utilize the properties of clouds to enhance coolness in the atmosphere of Mina, Arafat, and Muzdalifah during the Hajj seasons.

Cloud seeding is a weather modification technique that enhances a cloud’s ability to produce rain or snow by introducing tiny ice nuclei into specific subfreezing clouds. In 2023, the Saudi Regional Cloud Seeding Program conducted 451 flights for cloud seeding and research, totaling 1,424 flight hours. This included 415 flights for cloud seeding with 1,312:45 flight hours and 36 flights for research and study with 111:29 flight hours. The program’s efforts aim to maximize the benefits of cloud seeding technology for weather modification and temperature regulation in the region.

The NCM emphasized the need for a detailed study by specialists before implementing the cloud transformation project for the Hajj pilgrimage. While the idea has potential, it requires thorough scrutiny to ensure its effectiveness and safety. The NCM’s initiative to expand the Cloud Seeding Program in the Holy Sites demonstrates their commitment to utilizing advanced technologies for weather modification and climate control. By harnessing the power of clouds, the project aims to create a more comfortable and conducive environment for pilgrims during the Hajj season.

The concept of transferring clouds from Taif to Makkah for the Hajj pilgrimage signifies a groundbreaking approach to managing weather conditions in the region. By leveraging innovative research technology, the NCM seeks to mitigate the impact of hot weather and enhance the overall experience for Hajj pilgrims. The potential benefits of this project include reduced temperature levels in the Holy Sites and a cooler atmosphere in key pilgrimage locations. Through strategic planning and collaboration with experts, the NCM aims to revolutionize weather modification techniques for the benefit of all stakeholders.

As the Regional Cloud Seeding Program continues to evolve and expand its activities, the Saudi government remains committed to investing in cutting-edge technologies for weather modification and climate control. By conducting extensive research and implementing advanced cloud seeding techniques, the NCM is paving the way for a more sustainable and resilient environment in the region. The collaboration between government agencies, research institutions, and meteorological experts underscores the importance of innovation in addressing climate challenges and ensuring the safety and well-being of the community.

In conclusion, the NCM’s efforts to explore the feasibility of cloud transformation technology for the Hajj pilgrimage represent a significant step towards enhancing weather conditions and climate control in the region. By prioritizing research, collaboration, and innovation, the NCM aims to revolutionize weather modification techniques and create a more comfortable environment for pilgrims during the Hajj season. With strategic planning and ongoing investment in advanced technologies, the NCM is leading the way in utilizing cloud seeding for the benefit of all stakeholders in Saudi Arabia.
