The Knowledge and Human Development Authority (KHDA) has announced an initiative to offer over 400 scholarships to exceptional Emirati students in Dubai’s private schools. The Dubai Distinguished Students Programme, in partnership with the Knowledge Fund Establishment as part of the Dubai Social Agenda 33, will cover half of the annual tuition fees for outstanding students in schools rated ‘Good or Better’ in recent inspections. Applications for the 2024-25 academic year will be open from May 20 to June 5, and Emirati parents can register their children through the KHDA website.
The aim of the programme is to award a total of 1800 scholarships by 2030, and currently nine schools are participating in the initiative. Aisha Abdulla Miran, director-general of KHDA, expressed appreciation for Knowledge Fund and participating schools for their support in offering scholarships to exceptional Emirati students. The programme will cover curricula such as the British curriculum, International Baccalaureate, and American curriculum in the schools that are part of the initiative.
Abdulla Mohammed Al Awar, CEO of the Knowledge Fund Establishment, emphasized the importance of high-quality educational initiatives in enriching the educational system in Dubai. The scholarship programme is open to Emirati students with a family book issued in Dubai, covering 50% of tuition fees for students from Grade 4 or Year 5 until Grade 10 or Year 11 in public or private schools. Eligible students should have a high academic performance and pass assessments and interviews conducted by the schools’ evaluation committees.
The programme will be managed by a committee to ensure that the education provided meets the high standards expected of the participating schools. The initiative aims to empower distinguished Emirati students by providing an exceptional and ideal environment to enhance their education to higher levels. More private schools are encouraged to join the programme in nurturing exceptional Emirati students through offering scholarships that cover a portion of their tuition fees.
