Ooredoo Oman, a company under the Ooredoo Group, has recently signed an agreement for the landing of the 2Africa Cable System in Barka and Salalah, marking the most extensive subsea cable system landing in the Sultanate of Oman to date. This ambitious project involves the installation of a 45,000km-long cable system that will connect 33 countries across Africa, Asia, and Europe and impact over 3 billion people. The 2Africa consortium includes major telecommunications companies like Orange, Vodafone, and China Mobile International, with Alcatel Submarine Networks handling the manufacturing and installation of the cable.

Bassam Yousef Al Ibrahim, CEO of Ooredoo Oman, highlighted the importance of the landing agreements for the 2Africa Cable System, stating that it aligns with their vision of becoming a leading player in global connectivity. Ooredoo Oman aims to establish itself as the preferred partner for landing submarine cable systems and support Ooredoo’s expansion into a truly global connectivity provider. By extending their reach regionally and internationally, Ooredoo Oman is focusing on enhancing their connectivity offerings and achieving their strategic goals.

The selected gateways for the landings of the 2Africa Cable System in Oman are Salalah and Barka, with Salalah emerging as a significant new submarine cable landing hub in the southern part of the country. Ooredoo Oman will be responsible for developing a new landing infrastructure for both locations and ensuring its maintenance for years to come. This new infrastructure will set a new standard for submarine cable systems in Oman, providing robust connectivity and access for all operators in the country, and reinforcing Oman’s position as a key player in the global telecommunications landscape.

Najib Khan, Group Chief Business Services Officer at Ooredoo, emphasized the importance of innovative solutions in navigating the complexities of global connectivity. By landing the 2Africa Cable System in Oman, Ooredoo is not only strengthening its commitment to providing reliable connectivity but also positioning itself as a leader in the global telecommunications industry. This strategic move demonstrates Ooredoo’s readiness to meet the changing needs of their customers and adapt to the evolving landscape of the telecommunications sector.

In conclusion, the landing of the 2Africa Cable System in Barka and Salalah is a significant milestone for Ooredoo Oman and the Sultanate of Oman as a whole. By undertaking this extensive project, Ooredoo Oman is showcasing its commitment to enhancing connectivity on a global scale, and solidifying its position as a key player in the telecommunications industry. The development of a new landing infrastructure and the involvement of major telecom companies in the 2Africa consortium highlight the importance of this project for the region and the potential impact it will have on billions of people across three continents.
