Rotterdam: The Sultanate of Oman is making its mark at the World Hydrogen Summit 2024 in Rotterdam, Netherlands. Oman is showcasing its ambitious goal to become one of the largest exporters of low-carbon hydrogen by 2030. The World Hydrogen Summit in Rotterdam is a major global event, and Oman is participating with a high-level delegation including officials from the Ministry of Energy, Ministry of Transport, and the Sultanate’s Embassy in the Netherlands. The delegation includes key players in Oman’s hydrogen sector such as Hydrom and OQ Alternative Energy.

Oman’s participation in the Summit includes various activities such as speaking opportunities, discussions, and site visits to green hydrogen projects in Amsterdam. The goal is to highlight Oman’s efforts in building a comprehensive ecosystem that capitalizes on its strategic position to become a global hub for green hydrogen. As part of Oman’s aggressive energy transition plan, Hydrom has secured over $49 billion to produce 1.38 million tonnes of green hydrogen annually by 2030. This milestone follows successful green hydrogen block auctions in Dhofar, marking the completion of Phase A of Oman’s Hydrogen Strategy.

Mohsin Al Hadhrami, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Energy and Minerals, emphasized Oman’s commitment to sustainable energy and environmental preservation. Oman has developed a roadmap to achieve Net Zero by 2050 and aims to produce over 1 million tons of hydrogen by 2030 and approximately 8 million tons by 2050. The country has established controls for exploration and production of geological hydrogen and is nearing completion of a feasibility study for blue hydrogen. These efforts are aligned with Oman’s goal to reduce emissions and attract investments in the green hydrogen sector.

Ghalib Al Maamari, Chief of Business Development at OQ Alternative Energy, highlighted the company’s role in spearheading low-carbon molecules projects. OQ Alternative Energy is focused on producing green hydrogen through vectors such as ammonia, leveraging Oman’s renewable energy resources and infrastructure. Oman is moving forward with green hydrogen projects, with more than $49 billion invested in eight large-scale projects to date. The country aims to become a key global producer of green hydrogen by 2030.

Eng. Hafsa Rashid Al Subhi, Account Manager at Hydrom, stated that Oman is actively working towards its green hydrogen aspirations by awarding large-scale projects and increasing production capacity. With ambitious targets and visionary leadership, Oman’s drive to become a leading global green hydrogen hub is well underway. The country’s strategic planning, investments, and projects aim to position Oman as a key player in the renewable energy sector, contributing to global energy security and environmental sustainability. Through collaboration and innovation, Oman is poised to reshape the global energy landscape through the power of green hydrogen.
