The Dubai Crocodile Park recently announced the start of the annual nesting season, where female Nile Crocodiles lay their eggs in designated areas within the park. Experts carefully collect the eggs to monitor parameters such as temperature and shell quality, aiding conservation efforts and providing insights into the crocodile population’s health. The curatorial team has been monitoring and collecting eggs, with females laying up to 60 eggs each, which they incubate for about 90 days. The gender of the hatchlings is determined by the nest’s temperature and is strategically chosen away from water and male territories for safety.

Once hatched, mother crocodiles carry their offspring to water, significantly increasing their chances of survival. Despite their care, only 1% of wild hatchlings typically reach maturity due to various predators. Head curator Marc Gansuana highlighted the importance of allowing females to carry out their reproductive cycle naturally for their well-being. Tickets to the Dubai Crocodile Park cost Dh95 for adults and Dh75 for children, offering visitors the opportunity to witness this fascinating nesting season up close.
