Saudi Arabia strengthens digital government partnerships with the UK

Eng. Ahmed Al-Suwaiyan, Governor of the Digital Government Authority (DGA) and Chairman of the Executive Committee of the Digital Cooperation Organization (DCO), recently concluded his visit to the United Kingdom with a focus on enhancing Saudi-UK cooperation in the digital economy. During his visit, Eng. Al-Suwaiyan participated in the 21st Annual Middle East and North Africa Conference where he delivered a keynote speech highlighting Saudi Arabia’s achievements in digital transformation. Through this speech, he aimed to share best practices and success stories from the Kingdom to promote knowledge and experience in the digital sector.

Eng. Al-Suwaiyan engaged in strategic discussions with key British officials such as Alex Burghart, Parliamentary Secretary for the British Cabinet Office; Julia Lopez, British Minister for Data and Digital Infrastructure; and Saqib Bhatti, Minister for Technology and the Digital Economy. These meetings focused on expanding the strategic partnership between Saudi Arabia and the UK in the area of digital government. The Saudi Ambassador to the UK, Prince Khalid bin Bandar bin Sultan, also hosted Eng. Al-Suwaiyan and his delegation at the embassy to review the DGA’s efforts in developing digital government services and explore potential avenues for further cooperation.

In addition, Eng. Al-Suwaiyan met with Dr. Amal Fatani, the Saudi Cultural Attaché in the UK, and held discussions with a group of Saudi scholarship students at the Saudi Cultural Mission in London. These meetings delved into current initiatives in digital transformation and strategic directions for digital government. Eng. Al-Suwaiyan listened to the students’ ideas and challenges they face with digital government services, with the aim of enhancing their digital experience and satisfaction.

Overall, this visit by Eng. Ahmed Al-Suwaiyan aimed to strengthen ties between Saudi Arabia and the United Kingdom in the realm of digital government. Through showcasing Saudi Arabia’s achievements in digital transformation and engaging in strategic discussions with key British officials, the Governor emphasized the importance of cooperation and knowledge sharing in the digital economy. Moving forward, it is expected that this visit will result in enhanced collaboration and advancements in digital government initiatives between the two nations.
