The 70th meeting of the Information and Communication Technology Governance Committee, chaired by the iGA Chief Executive H.E. Mohammed Ali Al Qaed, focused on reviewing projects and purchase orders from government entities. One of the key projects discussed was the upgrade of the Bahrain Spatial Data Infrastructure (BSDI) Portal and the Geographic Information Systems (GIS) at the iGA. This upgrade will provide over 300 layers of infrastructure maps to serve 30+ government entities through a geographic browser. The project aims to offer the latest geographic data in a unified database, including maps of essential services and infrastructure information such as addresses, buildings, water networks, electricity networks, and more.

The system upgrade is expected to support the adoption of advanced technologies like Geospatial Artificial Intelligence (GeoAI) and Building Information Modeling (BIM) in Bahrain. The integration of GeoAI will enhance data quality, improve processes, and speed up decision-making through geographic data predictive analysis. On the other hand, the utilization of BIM technology will enable advanced three-dimensional infrastructure plans. The committee also discussed the redesign of Bahrain’s National Portal, bahrain.bh, and the development of a unified government app for smart devices. These initiatives aim to enhance the accessibility and efficiency of government services through digital platforms.

The upgrade of the Bahrain Spatial Data Infrastructure (BSDI) Portal and the Geographic Information Systems (GIS) at the iGA will have a significant impact on the availability and quality of geographic data in Bahrain. By providing over 300 layers of infrastructure maps to 30+ government entities through a geographic browser, the project will enhance decision-making processes and improve the efficiency of service delivery. The unified database will include maps of essential services and infrastructure information such as addresses, buildings, water networks, electricity networks, and more, ensuring that government entities have access to the most up-to-date information for planning and decision-making.

The adoption of advanced technologies such as Geospatial Artificial Intelligence (GeoAI) and Building Information Modeling (BIM) in Bahrain will further enhance the capabilities of the upgraded system. GeoAI will enable predictive analysis of geographic data, leading to improved data quality and more efficient processes. Additionally, BIM technology will facilitate the creation of advanced three-dimensional infrastructure plans, allowing government entities to visualize and plan infrastructure projects in a more detailed and efficient manner. Overall, these technological advancements will help Bahrain stay at the forefront of digital innovation and improve the delivery of government services to its citizens.

In addition to the technological upgrades, the committee also discussed the redesign of Bahrain’s National Portal, bahrain.bh, and the unified government app for smart devices. These initiatives are aimed at enhancing the accessibility and efficiency of government services for citizens. By redesigning the National Portal and developing a unified government app, Bahrain aims to provide a more user-friendly interface for accessing government services and information. These digital platforms will make it easier for citizens to interact with the government, access services, and stay informed about government initiatives and programs.

Overall, the developments discussed at the 70th meeting of the Information and Communication Technology Governance Committee demonstrate Bahrain’s commitment to leveraging technology to improve the efficiency and accessibility of government services. The upgrade of the Bahrain Spatial Data Infrastructure (BSDI) Portal, the integration of advanced technologies like GeoAI and BIM, and the redesign of the National Portal and government app for smart devices represent significant steps towards enhancing the digital infrastructure of the country. By investing in these technologies and initiatives, Bahrain is positioning itself as a leader in digital innovation and is working towards providing more efficient and user-friendly government services for its citizens.
