The Council of Representatives in Bahrain has recently endorsed a proposal to revise the voting system of the Bahrain Chamber of Commerce and Industry (BCCI) based on capital. The aim of this amendment, in line with Decree Law No. 48 of 2021, is to ensure fair representation for all merchants within the Chamber. The proposal received overwhelming support, with 28 votes in favor. MP Abdulla Alromaihi chose to abstain from voting, while MP Hasan Ebrahim was the sole dissenting vote. This new legislation addresses the need for a more inclusive and balanced system that levels the playing field within the Chamber.

The current system in place at the BCCI is seen as favoring major merchants, creating a sense of inequality within the Chamber. The proposed amendment seeks to rectify this disparity and provide impartial representation for all merchants involved. MP Basma Mubarak expressed concerns about the lack of participation in chamber elections, with only 1,500 members taking part in the last election. This reluctance to engage is attributed to the existing law, which fails to deliver justice to small and medium enterprises.

This amendment to the voting system at the BCCI is crucial in ensuring that all merchants have a fair opportunity to participate and have their voices heard within the Chamber. By addressing the current imbalance that benefits major merchants, the proposed change aims to create a more democratic and inclusive environment for all members. The unanimous support for this proposal highlights the urgent need for reform within the Chamber and the recognition of the importance of fair representation for all merchants.

The revision of the voting system at the BCCI is a positive step towards promoting equality and justice for all merchants in Bahrain. By eliminating the current biases that favor major merchants, the proposed amendment paves the way for a more transparent and equitable Chamber. This legislative change is expected to encourage greater participation from small and medium enterprises, fostering a more diverse and vibrant business community in Bahrain.

The endorsement of this proposal by the Council of Representatives reflects a commitment to upholding democratic principles and ensuring that all merchants, regardless of size, have an equal voice in the decision-making process. The unanimous support for this amendment signals a unified effort to address the existing inequalities within the Chamber and promote a more inclusive and representative system. By implementing this change, Bahrain is taking a significant step towards creating a more level playing field for all merchants and fostering a more vibrant business environment in the country.

In conclusion, the recent endorsement of the proposal to revise the voting system at the BCCI marks a significant milestone in promoting fairness and equality within the Chamber. This amendment is a crucial step towards creating a more inclusive and representative environment for all merchants in Bahrain. By addressing the existing disparities and biases that favor major merchants, this legislative change aims to promote greater participation from small and medium enterprises and foster a more diverse and vibrant business community. The unanimous support for this proposal underscores the importance of reform within the Chamber and the commitment to ensuring that all merchants have an equal opportunity to participate and thrive in the business landscape of Bahrain.
