Elias bin Haider: The Baker of Jumeirah Who Remained Loyal to His Craft

Elias bin Haider has been a staple in the Jumeirah community for over four decades. Starting as a bread maker at the age of 18, Haider’s journey began with a simple dream and a natural talent for baking. He turned down an offer to work in a grocery store and instead set up his small bakery, where he started making his signature Regag bread, a traditional Emirati flatbread. With just a corner, some dough, and a crepe pan, Haider’s bakery became a local favorite.

Today, at the age of 66, Haider still operates his small bakery in Jumeirah, where he continues to make the same delicious bread that he started making almost 50 years ago. Despite the changing landscape of the area, Haider has remained a constant in the community, serving locals and tourists alike with his freshly baked bread. His dedication to his craft and his commitment to quality have earned him a loyal customer base that extends beyond the borders of the Emirates.

Haider’s bakery has become a must-visit destination for those looking to experience authentic Emirati flavors. He has expanded his menu to include variations of his original bread, such as cheese and chips, eggs, and honey, making it a versatile and enjoyable meal for anyone passing by. Haider’s commitment to serving his bread hot and fresh has endeared him to his customers, who appreciate the quality and taste of his handmade creations.

From early morning until late evening, Haider devotes himself to his craft, ensuring that his customers receive the best possible experience. He starts his day at 7 am, serving simple breakfast options like regag bread with eggs or cheese to his loyal patrons. Despite the long hours and hard work, Haider’s passion for baking shines through in every loaf of bread he produces, earning him rave reviews from customers near and far.

As Jumeirah has evolved into a bustling tourist destination, Haider’s bakery has also seen an increase in demand from visitors seeking to taste his famous bread. During special occasions like Ramadan, Haider’s workload doubles as customers flock to his bakery to enjoy his bread with traditional Emirati dishes like Ghozi and Tharid. His dedication to his craft and his commitment to quality have made him a beloved figure in the Jumeirah community and beyond.

In a rapidly changing world, Elias bin Haider stands as a testament to the enduring power of tradition and craftsmanship. His simple bakery in Jumeirah serves as a reminder of the importance of preserving and honoring age-old culinary traditions. As tourists and locals alike continue to flock to his bakery to taste his delicious creations, Haider’s legacy as the Baker of Jumeirah lives on, providing a taste of authentic Emirati flavors to all who visit.
