Parents must put their children’s safety first and ensure that any facility used by them is certified fit for use by relevant authorities. This caution comes after a tragic incident where a seven-year-old boy died in a locked car. Schools are urged to only hand over children to approved transportation providers to ensure their safety. While the cost of school transportation may be high, it is worth it for the safety and security it provides compared to illegal transportation options.

Educators stress the importance of close communication with parents regarding approved transportation methods and regularly verifying the legitimacy of transportation providers. Authorized school buses have trained drivers and nannies who conduct thorough checks before leaving the bus. CCTV cameras in buses ensure the safety of students, and in case of missing children, schools contact parents promptly.

To enhance children’s safety, educators recommend teaching them basic safety skills such as having emergency contact numbers available and knowing how to assert themselves in uncomfortable situations. Parents and schools can also encourage children to take responsibility for their fellow passengers while on the bus. Road safety experts emphasize the responsibility of parents in choosing the right transportation for their children and prioritizing safety over cost considerations.

Schools in the UAE follow procedures to ensure the safety of students, including ongoing training for bus drivers and attendants, technology to prevent students from being left behind, and engagement with parents to raise awareness about using licensed transport operators. Parents are urged to do their due diligence before entrusting their children to a transport provider and to attend town hall meetings or teacher-parent events where transportation safety can be discussed.

In conclusion, the safety of children should always be the top priority for parents and schools. By following proper procedures, communicating effectively, and promoting awareness about safe transportation options, the risk of incidents like the one in Sharjah can be minimized. It is essential to educate children on basic safety skills and encourage responsibility among passengers on school buses to ensure a safe and secure transportation experience.
