Large swathes of the deserts in the UAE are now turning into lush green landscapes due to a period of higher-than-usual rainfall over the past couple of weeks. Explorers in the country have been witnessing several areas covered in greenery, such as parts of the Sharjah-Kalba road around Shawka and Masafi-Dibba. This transformation has been quite significant, with many individuals noting the increased greenery after record-breaking rainfall in the region. One explorer, Sajjad, mentioned that he has been observing the country getting greener for some time but has never seen it so lush before.
As an expat who has been living in Dubai for over a decade, Sajjad expressed that this is the first time he has witnessed the UAE looking so green. He shared a video of the Sharjah-Kalba road during a recent visit, highlighting the stunning green landscapes stretching out before him. Other explorers have also reported experiencing overflowing wadis across the country. Asif, a Dubai resident, mentioned driving to Masafi to explore one of the wadis with his friends, noting the increased water levels in these natural pools due to the abundant rainfall.
Furthermore, wadis in various parts of the UAE, such as Ras Al Khaimah and Hatta, have been attracting visitors seeking to cool off in the flowing waters. Fahad M., a resident of Hatta, shared a photo of a waterfall close to his home, explaining that the water was flowing nonstop since the last heavy rains in April. The water is said to be coming from the Thaani dam in Hatta, resulting in gushing springs and waterfalls that have not been seen in a long time. This natural phenomenon has been drawing many visitors to these wadis for a refreshing and enjoyable experience.
For some residents like Sharjah resident Soumyan, visiting Wadi Milh has been a once-in-a-lifetime experience. He mentioned that it was the first time in his 21 years in the country that he had seen so much water in the wadi, describing it as fresh, clear, and beautiful. Soumyan visited the wadi with a group of friends and described it as one of the most memorable experiences he has had. The UAE has seen a heavy spell of rain in recent months, including the heaviest rain in the last 75 years. More rain is expected in the upcoming weeks, leading up to the summer season, further enhancing the green landscapes and overflowing wadis across the country.
