Children actively participated in the activities of the Senyar Festival 2024, held at Katara in Doha, Qatar. The General Manager of Cultural Village Foundation, Dr. Khalid bin Ibrahim Al Sulaiti, crowned the winning teams in the festival’s 10th edition. The Suhail team clinched the first place with a weight of 376.66kg, with their captain Hamad Ali Al Tamimi receiving a prize of QR1 million. The Al Zubarah team secured the second place with a weight of 349.6kg, and the Al Jaryan team came in third with a weight of 348.5kg.
The winners of the largest fish caught category were also honored at the ceremony. The Suhail team won first place with a 16.40kg kingfish, earning their captain a prize of QR50,000. The Al Khor and Belhambar teams secured second and third place respectively with impressive catches. The traditional boats participating in the Al-Haddak and Al-Laffah tournaments arrived at Saif Katara amidst a celebratory atmosphere.
Dr. Al Sulaiti welcomed the participants and highlighted the significance of Senyar in reviving the maritime heritage of Qatar. He emphasized how the festival pays homage to the heroism and glories of the past generations, reminding people of the customs and traditions associated with fishing, diving, and trade trips. The festival has become a prominent event that showcases the rich maritime heritage of the region.
The festival’s tenth edition has garnered great success, with the upcoming Belmsan Championship set to feature 15 winning teams from Senyar 2024. The festival’s development and prestige have elevated its status as one of the largest events celebrating maritime heritage. Al Sulaiti commended the festival for its growth and its role in preserving the traditions of the first generation while promoting community development and empowerment.
Executive Director of the Social and Sports Activities Support Fund, Abdul Rahman Abdul Latif Al Mannai, highlighted the Fund’s support for the festival. The Fund believes in the significance of the event and its alignment with the goals of promoting community development and empowering individuals in line with Qatar’s National Vision 2030. The Senyar Festival continues to be a platform for celebrating Qatar’s maritime heritage and nurturing a sense of pride in the country’s cultural roots.
