The UAE women’s cricket team are on the brink of qualifying for the 2024 ICC Women’s T20 World Cup for the first time after reaching the semi-finals of the qualifiers held in Abu Dhabi. The national team made their international debut in 2007 and have never played at a World Cup at the senior level. Esha Oza’s team will face Sri Lanka in a crucial match for a place in the final on May 5 at Zayed Cricket Stadium.

In a decisive group stage match, the UAE secured their spot in the semi-finals with a comprehensive 70-run victory over Vanuatu. Ireland also advanced to the semi-finals by defeating the Netherlands by 54 runs, ensuring that the hosts secured the last qualifying slot. With the win, Ireland finished top of their T20 World Cup Qualifier group, setting up a semi-final clash against Scotland.

The UAE’s 70-run victory significantly boosted their net run rate, leveling them on points with the Netherlands. Ireland and Scotland will face off in the first semi-final, while the UAE will take on Sri Lanka in the second semi-final. The qualifying competition will determine the final two teams for the main event, which will be held in Bangladesh in September and October.

The upcoming semi-final fixtures at Zayed Cricket Stadium in Abu Dhabi will see Ireland take on Scotland at 1:30 pm, followed by the UAE facing Sri Lanka at 6:00 pm. In other matches, Scotland defeated Thailand by six wickets, the UAE beat Vanuatu by 70 runs, Sri Lanka triumphed over the USA by 18 runs, and Ireland secured a 54-run victory over the Netherlands.

The UAE women’s cricket team’s impressive performance in the qualifiers has put them within reach of qualifying for the prestigious 2024 ICC Women’s T20 World Cup. With the support of their fans and the determination of the players, the UAE team is poised to make history by participating in their first ever World Cup at the senior level. Stay tuned for more exciting updates as the team competes in the semi-finals and aims for a spot in the final to secure their place in the T20 World Cup.
