Saudi Arabia has witnessed a substantial increase in internet usage in 2023, with a penetration rate of 99%, showcasing near-universal access among its population. The “Internet Saudi Arabia” report by the Communications, Space, and Technology Commission reveals that internet usage is high among both men and women, at 99.3% and 98.5% respectively. Over half of users spend more than seven hours daily online, with the majority accessing the internet from home, on the move, and from workplaces. Peak internet usage hours are between 9 PM and 11 PM, with Fridays being the busiest day. December is identified as the peak month for internet usage.

When it comes to devices, mobile phones are the primary means of internet access at 98.9%, followed by computers at 55% and tablets at 39%. Android is the most popular mobile operating system at 61.5%, followed by iOS at 38.1%. Windows leads among computer operating systems at 91.1%, with MacOS following at 7%. The report also sheds light on the top activities online, including government services and banking services, with high usage rates. Online shopping trends show that 63.7% of users purchase products or services online, with more women engaging in online shopping compared to men.

The report also emphasizes the crucial role of infrastructure developments in facilitating widespread internet usage in Saudi Arabia. The country is positioned among the top ten globally for mobile internet speeds, with over 12 million IoT subscriptions. Internet data traffic exceeded 42 million terabytes in 2023, averaging 44 gigabytes per month per individual. This indicates a growing reliance on the internet in various aspects of daily life, including communication, information, and commerce. These statistics demonstrate the increasing digitalization of Saudi society and the importance of internet connectivity in the country.

Overall, the report highlights the rapid growth and impact of internet usage in Saudi Arabia, with a high penetration rate and widespread access among its population. The data presented showcases the preferences and behaviors of internet users in the country, such as usage patterns, preferred devices, and online activities. It also underscores the significance of infrastructure development in supporting the expansion of internet access and services. As internet usage continues to grow, it is essential for Saudi Arabia to invest in further technological advancements to meet the evolving needs of its digitally connected population.

In conclusion, the 2023 “Internet Saudi Arabia” report paints a comprehensive picture of the internet landscape in the country, highlighting key trends and insights into user behavior and preferences. With near-universal access, high usage rates, and a growing reliance on internet connectivity, Saudi Arabia is well-positioned for continued digital transformation and technological innovation. By addressing infrastructure needs and adapting to changing consumer demands, the country can further enhance its internet ecosystem and support the diverse online activities of its population.
