The Ministry of Interior in Doha, Qatar has issued an advisory for travellers to take precautions while on their journeys. In its Travel Fraud Awareness, the ministry has listed five tips for travellers to follow in order to stay protected during their travels. These tips include avoiding using ATMs in open, high-traffic areas, storing documents and personal devices in secure locations, booking accommodation, tours, and transport through reputable agencies, avoiding scanning unknown QR codes, and using secure, private Wi-Fi networks.

One of the main tips provided in the advisory is to avoid using ATMs in open, high-traffic areas and instead opt for ATMs that are located inside bank branches. This is to help prevent travellers from falling victim to ATM fraud or theft in busy public spaces. By using ATMs in secure locations, travellers can reduce the risk of having their personal and financial information compromised.

Another important tip is to store documents and personal devices in secure locations while travelling. This includes keeping passports, identification cards, credit cards, and electronic devices in a safe and secure place, such as a hotel safe or a locked bag. By keeping these items secure, travellers can prevent them from being lost or stolen while on the go.

The advisory also emphasizes the importance of booking accommodation, tours, and transport through reputable websites and agencies to avoid scams. By doing so, travellers can ensure that they are dealing with legitimate businesses and that their personal and financial information is safe. Booking through reputable sources can also help prevent travellers from falling victim to travel scams or fraudulent activities.

Travellers are also advised to avoid scanning unknown QR codes while travelling. Scanning QR codes from unknown sources can potentially expose travellers to cyber threats and scams. It is recommended to only scan QR codes from trusted sources or reputable businesses to avoid falling victim to fraudulent activities.

Lastly, travellers are encouraged to use secure, private Wi-Fi networks while travelling. Public Wi-Fi networks can sometimes be unsecured and vulnerable to cyber attacks. By using secure, private networks, travellers can protect their sensitive information and reduce the risk of falling victim to online scams or cybercrime.

In case travellers encounter any cybercrime or fraudulent activities while travelling, the Cybercrimes Combating Department can be contacted through various channels, including a hotline number, the Metrash2 app, or via email. By reporting any suspicious activity to the authorities, travellers can help prevent others from becoming victims of cybercrime and ensure their own safety and security while on their journeys.
