The 34th edition of the Doha International Book Fair (DIBF) is set to take place at the Doha Exhibition and Convention Center from May 8 to 17, 2025. With broad international participation, including publishing houses from various countries around the world, the event is known for its high reputation and attracts visitors from Gulf, Arab countries, and beyond. The fair gives special attention to children and young people, with pavilions dedicated to children’s book publishers and interactive activities to promote reading and highlight talent.

Initially launched in 1972 by Qatari Books House, the DIBF has grown from biennial to annual, and has become a platform for international publishers to showcase their work. The 33rd edition saw a record-breaking participation of over 515 publishers from 42 nations, as well as the involvement of embassies from various countries. The fair covers a wide range of topics in cultural events held on the sidelines of the main event, addressing public interests and concerns.

Since 2010, DIBF has been highlighting a different country as a guest of honor in each edition. Previous guest countries include the United States of America, Turkiye, Iran, Japan, UK, Germany, Russia, France, the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, and the Sultanate of Oman. This initiative aims to celebrate the diversity of global literature and culture, fostering international cooperation and sharing of knowledge and ideas.

The DIBF’s focus on cultural diversity and inclusion has contributed to its universal recognition and success over the years. With a commitment to promoting literacy, encouraging reading habits, and supporting young talent, the fair continues to be a cornerstone event in the region’s cultural calendar. Visitors can expect a wide range of activities, seminars, and exhibitions that cater to all ages and interests. The fair also serves as a networking platform for publishers, authors, and literary enthusiasts from around the world.

The Ministry of Culture plays a vital role in organizing the DIBF, ensuring a seamless and enriching experience for all participants. With a strong emphasis on quality and diversity, the fair aims to showcase the best of international and local literature, offering attendees a unique opportunity to explore different cultures and perspectives. The DIBF is a testament to Qatar’s commitment to fostering a thriving cultural scene and promoting dialogue and exchange among nations.

As the DIBF continues to evolve and expand, it remains a beacon of literary excellence and cultural diplomacy in the region. By bringing together publishers, authors, and readers from diverse backgrounds, the fair celebrates the power of words to transcend boundaries and connect people from all walks of life. With its long-standing legacy and commitment to promoting literacy and education, the Doha International Book Fair continues to be a key event for the global literary community.
